The Sarnia
Legionnaires will be looking for their third
straight win this afternoon when they play a 'road'
game in the city.
Here's a preview of the Western Ontario Hockey
Conference contest:
WHO – Sarnia Legionnaires (20-21-3) vs.
Lambton Shores Predators (4-37-1)
WHERE – RBC Centre on the Lambton College
campus, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Fans should be able to get home in time for the
Super Bowl because the football kickoff isn't until
6:30 p.m. and the typical Jr. 'B' hockey game lasts
about two hours and 20 minutes.
This is a road game for the Legion crew, despite the
fact that it will be played in the city. As a
result, Legionnaires season passes will not be
accepted at the gate.
OUTLOOK – On paper, this looks like
'guaranteed win night' for the Sarnians. The Preds,
after all, are on a 23 game winless streak and have
not won since Nov. 10.
Making matters worse is the fact that they have not
been able to dress a full lineup for quite some
time. Indeed, it has not been uncommon for them to
show up with only a dozen skaters. As a result, they
are suffering many lopsided defeats.
Still, the Predators are capable of pulling off the
odd surprise. Last month, for example, they took the
Leamington Flyers to the wall, falling in a shootout
after regulation time and a five-minute overtime
failed to produce a winner. Not long after that,
they fell behind the London Nationals 4-0, then
rallied for a 4-4 tie. The Nats went on to win the
game, but the Preds had made their point – they
still have some fight left in them.
SIGNIFICANCE – Sarnia can move back up to the
.500 mark with a win. It can also move into a tie
for seventh place with the idle Chatham Maroons.
WHO'S HOT:
Sarnia – Brent Sullivan has three points in
three games since joining the Legionnaires. Rookie
Nathan Mater, fresh from a strong performance at the
all-star game, had a goal and an assist in last
Thursday's big win against London..
Lambton Shores -- Goalie Mark Foley made an
incredible 75 saves last week in a game at
Leamington. In all, Foley faced 83 shots. If not for
his strong play, the 8-2 loss would have been much
worse.
HISTORY – The Legionnaires have won all four
games between the two clubs this season, although
one was only by a 4-2 score.
Since the Preds came into existence in the fall of
2008, the Legionnaires have posted a 15-1 won-lost
record against them.
