The Hawks
went on the road to Mt Brydges to face the Cougars
(Blue) in Lambton-Middlesex league action and lost
7-4 in a hard-hitting battle.
The Hawks struck first within a few minutes of the
game as Marcus Saint scored off of a pass from
Daniel Marr. Shortly after, the Cougars retaliated
to even the score. Midway through the period, the
Hawks took two penalties inside a minute of each
other. With their backs against the wall, the Hawks
manage to stave off a goal during the 5 on 3
disadvantage. Just before the end of the first, the
Cougars took two penalties, also within a minute of
each other. The Hawks were not able to capitalize on
their power play before the period ended.
The second period continued with the only a minute
left in the 5 on 3 power play for the Hawks. The
Hawks were unable to produce at this time. The Hawks
gave up three goals in the top half of the second
period. With renewed determination, Jonathon
Boccanfuso found the back of the net with a short
pass from Noah Young. Moments later Blake Taylor on
a breakaway went head to head against the Cougars
goalie. He was able to deek out the goalie and
score! Before long the Cougars retaliated again to
continue a two point lead. With just over a minute
left in the second, Jonathon Boccanfuso does it
again with his second goal of the game. The period
ended with a score of 5-4.
The Cougars pushed on in the third period with their
6th goal in the top half of the period. The Hawks
with a strong effort were not able to hold back the
7th goal from the Cougars midway through the period.
Even with a loss, the Hawks can stand proud as they
fought hard in this nail biting game.
Next the Hawks will take on The Predators from
Lambton Shores in the Forest arena at 5:40 PM Feb
5th.
