Lambton Shores defeats Markham in high scoring game
andrew brethauer February 5th, 2011

The Lambton Shores Predators Midget B team got a huge win Saturday afternoon, as they defeated Markham in a high scoring game, 9-6 at the RBC Centre.

In the first minute Markham ripped a shot from the slot, but Alex Van Valkenburg got just enough to send it high over the net. Minutes later Kerrie Dirven races down the boards and finds Shelbi Parizeau who puts top shelf over Sarah Talsma-Iarocci's glove to give the Predators a 1-0 lead. Parizeau would make it 2-0 with her second straight goal, as she rips a rocket wrist shot into the top right corner of the net on the powerplay to give the Predators the two goal lead after the first period of play.

It wouldn't take long for Markham to respond in the second, as fourteen seconds into the period Talia Faubert skates around the Predators defence and slides it in to cut the lead to one.

But not to be outdone, the Predators come back and score twelve seconds after the Markham goal, as Jessi McGregor wrists it on net where Talsma-Iarocci can't handle and puck sneaks through to restore the two goal lead. But against Markgam would come back as Kaitlyn Ramsay would be at the side of the net during a scramble and jam the puck in to bring it back to a one goal game.

Markham would then look for the equalizer and bad luck would give it to them, as the Lambton Shores defender trips while trying to play the puck and Ashley Korey picks up the puck and finds Alexandra Provis with her on the two on one. Provis would beat the Predators keeper and erase the two goal lead and tie it up a three each.

But Lambton Shores would get an answer to the two goals by Markham, and the answer was Kerrie Dirven, as Dirven would redirect a pass from Amanda Shawnoo to make it 4-3, and then twelve seconds later wrists it top corner for her second of the game to restore the Predators two goal lead at the end of the second.

Markham would get a shorthanded breakaway chance in the third period but it would be turned aside. On that same powerplay, Lambton Shores would capitalize again, as Lindsay Morgan would put the puck in from beside the net to make it a 6-3 game.

With the game getting rough, Lambton Shores would hit again on the score board, as Chelsea MacDonald would gather up a loose puck in front of the net and beat Talsma-Iarocci glove side for the four goal lead.

But Markham would start to gather back and cut into the lead, as Provis would get her second of the game by sending a low show to the far post to make it 7-4. With under six minutes to play Talia Faubert would get her second of the game as her initial shot is blocker, but her rebound would beat  Van Valkenburg to cut the Predators lead to two.

But Emily Mellon would spot Nicole Soetemans in front of the net from the corner, and her low shot would restore the three goal lead as the Predators make it 8-5. With the game drawing to an end, Markham would continue the press. Faubert would throw a shot on net which eventually was jammed in by Provis for her third of the game to make it 8-6. But Amanda Shawnoo would ice the game as she scores an empty net goal to go along with her three assists to give the Predators the 9-6 victory.

Earlier games for the Predators included a 6-1 loss to Walkerton in their opener and a 4-4 tie against South Point.
