The
St. Clair Storm (Mooretown) Midget B team were
looking for another big game coming off their 16-0
victory later Friday night, but the Storm were
defeated by West Seneca 5-1 Saturday afternoon at
the RBC Centre.
Early on West Seneca had the pressure in the St.
Clair zone as Kara Orlowski sent a shot through the
crease off a scramble in front of the net. The two
teams then played out the remainder of the first
period evenly matched as it ended scoreless.
In the
second period it only took twelve seconds to change
the scoreless part of the game, as Erin Gehen put a
shot on net that beat Sarah MacLaughlin and put West
Seneca up 1-0. In only took a couple of minutes for
that lead to be 2-0 as Kaeli Mathias rips a wrist
shot on net that bounces out of MacLaughlin's glove
and rolls into the back of the net.
St. Clair
would begin to get so momentum of their own, almost
scoring on a breakaway chance, as well as having a 5
on 3 powerplay for almost the full two minutes. But
West Seneca was able to kill the penalties off
without allowing a goal. West Seneca would take it
back the other way and Gehen would get a shot on net
and collect her own rebound, putting it five hole on
MacLaughlin for her second of the game to give West
Seneca a 3-0 lead.
But just
over a minute later St. Clair would respond on the
powerplay, as Alicia Bergman lets a wrist shot go
from the point that hits a West Seneca player and
bounces into the net to cut the lead to two. Kaylan
Moran would try to cut the lead to one, but the
young forward was stopped multiple times despite
having many scoring chances as she couldn't find the
back of the net.
In the
third West Seneca we begin to ice the game as midway
through the period. Claire Moran would have a
breakaway for St. Clair, but her slap shot would not
get passed Kaitlyn Simmons. Off the shot the West
Seneca would bring the puck back down the ice and
Chelsea Ortolano would slip it past MacLaughlin to
make it 4-1.
Gehen
would finish off the game with her hat-trick as she
scores on an empty net and West Seneca wins 5-1.
In their
two previous games, St. Clair was defeated 8-0 by
Ilderton Friday morning, and on Friday night they
won 16-0 against Mississauga. Unfortunately they
will not move on in the tournament.
