Lady Sting Peewee A's shutout Sault Ste. Marie
andrew brethauer February 5th, 2011

The Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting Peewee A team got a big win Saturday morning, as the ladies shutout Sault Ste. Marie 3-0 at the Point Edward Arena.

The lady Sting controlled the temp of the game earlier on, keeping the puck down low along the boards and getting scoring chances by passing the puck out front. Sarnia had two good chances as Kristin Parkes had a rebound shot in front of the net but it was stopped by Kierstin Williams to keep the score at 0-0. But the Sting would not let up as Aynsley Harrison had multiple chances in front of the net but couldn't put away any shot she had. Although the Sting stopped Sault Ste. Marie from making it down the ice and getting any good scoring chances, they couldn't find the back of the net in the first.

In the second period, Harrison is finally rewarded for her hard work as she redirects a shot from Amy McCormick to put the Lady Sting up 1-0. On the ensuing faceoff, Harrison would split the defence and get another scoring chance but was denied her second goal when Williams stopped her on the deke attempt. Sarnia again controlled the pace of the game as Sault Ste. Marie was able to get the puck deep into the Sting zone for any length of time and develop scoring opportunities. Williams held strong for Sault Ste. Marie and kept it just a one goal game heading into the third period.

In the third, Sault Ste. Marie's inability to get the puck out of the zone finally cost them, as Sarnia held it in the blue line and worked it along the boards. Darian Nahdee was able to get the puck to Amy McCormick who spun and fired a low shot along the ice that beat Williams on the far side to put the Sting up 2-0.

Sarnia would then control the faceoff circle, winning four face-offs in a row and getting quality chances on each draw, but they were not able to score on Williams who held the puck tight and let out no rebounds.

But the Sting still pressed and Harrison would again be rewarded for her hard work, as the captain used her speed to get around the Sault Ste. Marie defence and fire a wrist shot to the left side of the net for her second goal of the game.

In net for the Lady Sting was Ashley Norland who turned aside every shot she faced in the 3-0 shutout victory.

In their first match on Friday, the Lady Sting fell 3-0 to Saugeen. In their third match of the tournament they shutout Stratford 1-0 to go 2-1 in their three round robin games.
