The
Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting Midget A have not been able to
get the victory in either of their games, as the
Lady Sting skated to a 1-1 draw with the Clearview
IceCats, their second tie of the day.
In the
first period the Lady Sting put on the pressure,
getting the puck into the Clearview zone and keeping
it inside their blue line for most of the period.
Alice Huber would get a point shot through on the
screened goalie, but the IceCats keeper was able to
find the puck and make the save. Kendra Marotta and
Jordan Baker would also get shots on net but were
also turned aside. The Lady Sting would get
scrambles in front of the IceCats net, but their
shots could not get through the bodies in front, or
would be saved. Even with the powerplay the lady
Sting still could not find the back of the net
despite controlling the tempo of the game for the
entire first period.
The goalie
duel continued into the second as Sarnia's Jordan
Henry and Clearview's Natasha Trzebinski each held
their own shutout and kept the game scoreless,
coming up with big saves when needed. Sarnia would
still continue to put pressure deep into the
Clearview zone but their shots were missing wide and
high as they still couldn't solve Trzebinski. The
Lady Sting would get the puck back to the point, but
even they could not find the back of the net.
Clearview on the powerplay would have an open
chance, but the puck bounced over the stick of the
IceCat as the second period ends in another tie.
In the
third Clearview began to put shots onto the net and
created multiple chances early on but Henry turned
them aside to preserve her shutout. Clearview would
take a body checking penalty and that would turn out
to be costly. On the ensuing faceoff, Megan
Seed would get the puck back at the point and let
shot go on net. The shot would be redirected by
Melissa Plug and find the back of the net to give
the Lady Sting a 1-0 lead. Sarnia would take a
penalty of their own, but they almost put another in
as it slides just wide of the net. Henry would stand
strong in net as the IceCats came down looking to
tie.
Unfortunatley for Henry her shutout performance was
spoiled. Jamie Galbraith would get the puck behind
the net and put it out front. But it would hit off
of Henry's shoulder and bounce just inside the pass
and cross the goal line. With the game tied, Sarnia
would press in the final minute to score the go
ahead goal, getting three good scoring chances but
Trezebinski would hold the tie for the IceCats as
the game ends in a 1-1 tie.
Earlier in
the day Sarnia tied Mississauga 1-1 as well, giving
them two ties in the tournament. Their final round
robin match up goes Saturday morning against
Haldimand at 11:40a.m. at Clearwater Arena. |
