Major Atom Sting take 2-0 series lead over Burlington

The Sarnia Major Atom Sting entered the semi final round of the playdowns this past weekend with the Burlington Bulldogs and pulled out 2 big wins to take a 2 – 0 lead in the best of 5 series.

On Saturday at Clearwater Arena the Sting scored early to take the lead and the final outcome was never really in doubt in this total team effort as Sarnia cruised to a 7 – 1 victory. Scoring in this game was once again spread throughout the lineup with Jack Smith scoring 3 goals, Dawson Young and Lucas Ross picking up 1 goal and 1 assist each, Jake Vince and Mac Caley each scoring single goals. Matthew Torti chipped in with 3 assists, Brett Allardyce would add 2 assists, Tristan Haagsma, Austin Coutts, Jordan Hurtubise, Curtis Marks, Justin Houle and Spencer Preece would all pick up single assists. James Dunn was the winning goalie.

On Sunday in Burlington, the Sting would need to go to overtime before sealing another win. The Bulldogs were determined to get back in the series and were able to build a 2 – 0 early 2nd period lead. Sarnia would battle back with goals by Brett Allardyce and Dawson Young (Lucas Ross, Curtis Marks) to tie the game and score an early 3rd period power play goal by Dawson Young (Curtis Marks, Brett Allardyce) to take a 3 – 2 lead. Burlington would fight back to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Sting would dominate play in the overtime and Curtis Marks (Lucas Ross, Justin Houle) would get the big goal to give Sarnia a 4 – 3 win. Max Musico was in the net for the win in this game.
