The Petrolia Squires first game
against Monkton in the second
round of the WOAA Sr. Hockey
playoffs ended in a 2-1 loss, as
Monkton scored late in the third
period to take the victory.
In the first period the Squires took the early lead as Ryan Chapman scored his second of the playoffs on the powerplay to take a 1-0 lead. The first ranked Wildcats would respond later in the period with their own powerplay goal, as Kevin Ward put in his first of the playoffs to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second period Monkton put 11 shots on net while the Squires could only get 5. Justin Day was able to stop all 11 shots in the period to keep the game tied after the second period.
The third was much closer shot wise, but the Squires could only get 4 shots on net. With just under four minutes to play, Phil Jarmuth scored his first of the playoffs unassisted, and that would prove to be the game winner as the Wildcats take game one 2-1.
Day made 27 saves on 29 stops in the loss while the Squires were only able to get 16 shots on net in total.
Game two goes Sunday, February 27th in Petrolia at 7:30p.m.
