CHATHAM
– Jesse Drydak of the Sarnia Legionnaires was a
finalist for this year's Most Valuable Player award
in the Western Ontario Hockey Conference.
The trophy was presented to D.J. Turner of the
LaSalle Vipers during the loop's annual awards
banquet, held here earlier in the week.
In naming Drydak a finalist, the judges described
the veteran right-winger as an “unselfish leader
with a relentless work ethic.” He was also lauded as
“a model player and league ambassador in all
respects.”
The 19-year-old Petrolia native scored 32 goals and
added 37 assists for an impressive 69 points in 49
games this winter.
"It's a high award to win, so just to be nominated
for it as an honour, absolutely,” Drydak said.
Winning the MVP award “is a goal for next year.”
Drydak said his immediate objective is to help the
Legionnaires win the championship. “That's the award
we want to take home,” he said.
