ON The Ontario Hockey League announced that
forward Greg McKegg of the Erie Otters is the OHL
Player of the Week for the third time this season.
For the week ending February 20, McKegg scored four
goals and four assists for eight points in three
games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
McKegg led the Otters to three wins including a 6-2
Wednesday night victory over the top Western
Conference team the Owen Sound Attack. McKegg scored
four goals including the game-winner and was named
the games first star becoming the first Otter in
franchise history to score four goals twice in one
season. McKegg then shifted to setup man with one
assist on Friday night in a 5-2 win over the Niagara
IceDogs, before tallying three assists on Saturday
as part of an 8-3 Otters win over the Guelph Storm
to match a franchise record for eight straight wins
on home ice at Tullio Arena.
McKegg, an 18-year-old from St. Thomas, ON, is
playing in his third OHL season with the Otters. A
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, McKegg was selected in
the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has
already established a career high with 38 goals and
has another 38 assists for 76 points in 56 games.
Also considered for the award this week was
Nashville Predators prospect Ryan Ellis of the
Windsor Spitfires, and 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect
Vladislav Namestnikov of the London Knights. Ellis
led the OHL with nine points in three games scoring
once and adding eight assists, while Namestnikov
scored his first career hat-trick as part of a
seven-point week with five goals and two assists. In
goal, Peter Di Salvo of the Oshawa Generals won
three games posting a goals-against-average of 1.95
and save percentage of .941.
