Drydak star at Jr. B All-Star Game
Dan Mccaffery February 1st, 2011

Jesse Drydak was the brightest star at the Western Jr. 'B' all-star game Monday.

The Sarnia Legionnaires rightwinger scored five points and was named Player-of-the-Game for Team Navy Blue.

The Blue squad, made up of athletes from Sarnia, Lambton Shores, London, St. Marys and Strathroy, edged Team White 14-12.

More than 600 fans took in the action at the Brock Street Barn, with all proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House.

Team White included players from St. Thomas, Chatham, Leamington and LaSalle.

In all, five Legionnaires took part, and they were all standouts. Collectively, they scored five goals and eight assists.

In addition to Drydak's heroics, Shawn Waldie and Tanner Tomlinson each had a goal and two assists, while Nathan Mater blinked the red light once and added a helper.

Legionnaires goalie Kyle Washer, who played half the game, kicked out 23 of 27 shots he faced. Two of his saves came on breakaways and several others were also of the spectacular variety.

Drydak's first goal came in the first period when he cut in front of the goal, deked the netminder of position and backhanded the puck into a yawning cage. His second marker came in the middle frame when he popped in a loose puck during a goalmouth scramble.

Tomlinson's goal was one of the prettiest of the night. The rugged winger barged through the defence and fired the puck home from point blank range.

Waldie found the back of the net with a rising shot from the faceoff circle.

Mater flipped in a passout from the side of the net.

Sarnia' Owen Rogers was selected to play in the game but was sidelined with an injury.
