Sarnia Y Rapids results from swim meet

Fifty-one swimmers from the Sarnia Y Rapids Swim Team represented the club as it hosted a regional swim meet earlier in December. Among stiff competition from seven other swim teams, Sarnia swimmers achieved many personal best times and tried new events. Seven-year-old Maddisson Hawryluk earned first-place ribbons for the 25M freestyle, and 25M butterfly in her age category.

Also swimming in the 7-and-under group were Ayrianna Batson, Taylor Marut, and Laura Potter. Laura placed 2nd in the 25M freestyle and 4th in the 25M backstroke. Ayrianna and Taylor each achieved top 10 finishes, in their first-ever competition.

The age group with the most representation was the 8- and 9-year-olds, many of whom have not swum in competition before. Sam Bedard (8) had two top 10 finishes. Kaiden Rawson, also 8, placed 4th in the 50M freestyle, 5th in the 100M IM and 6th in the 25M breaststroke. Thomas Cardinal (9) had all top 10 finishes, including a 2nd place in the 25M backstroke. Staisya Murphy (9) came 2nd in the 100M  Individual Medley (IM). Dylan Cloud, also 9, placed 3rd in the 100M IM, 5th in the 25M backstroke, and 6th in the 50M freestyle. Nadine Osmon (9) finished 5th in the 100M IM and 6th in the 25M butterfly. Taylor Evans (9) placed 4th in the 50M freestyle. Mavi Deol (9) came 8th in the 25M breaststroke and 9th in the 100M IM. Also swimming were Ciara Brown, Hollie Anne Jean, Erin Lacey (with all personal best times), Lauren Murray, Ella Roland, and Olivia Voisey, all 8, and 9-year-olds Abby Allardyce, Ally Core, Carson Demeter, Emma Devine, Mika Magtanong, Lucas Piazza (with all personal best times), Nes Tulang, and Brent Vandenheuvel.

In the 10- and 11-year-old group, Austin Adams (10), Rheannon Demeter (11),  Anna Derech (10), Jena Devine (10), Hayley Robertson (11), Joey Rombouts (11) and Trista Walsh (10) joined Chris Dejonghe (10) who finished 10th in the 100M freestyle, and Hannah Lacey (10) who came 10th in the 50M breaststroke and swam her first competitive 400M freestyle. Aynsley Persad  (11) placed 6th in the 50M butterfly, Hunter Small (11) finished 10th in the 50M butterfly, Noah Vanbelle (11) placed 7th in the 100M freestyle, and Luke Young (11) came 4th in both the 100M IM and 50M butterfly.  

Nadia Cartwright (12) finished 8th in the 100M IM among 12-and 13-year-old girls, while Latashia Dutcher (13) placed 10th in the same event. Emily Houle (13) earned all top 10 finishes, including 2nd in both the 100M IM and 100M breaststroke, and 6th in the 400M freestyle. Olivia Piazza, also 13, finished 4th in the 100M IM and 100M backstroke, and 5th in the 100M breaststroke. Among the boys, Dariel Gomez (13) came 4th in the 100M breaststroke, 5th in the 100M IM and 6th in the 100M backstroke, while  Liam Young, also 13, placed 3rd in each of the 100M IM and 100M backstroke, 4th in the 50M butterfly, and 7th in each of the 100M breaststroke and 400M freestyle. Also swimming in this age group were Lindsey Cloud, Magaidh Crossland and Courtney Murray (12), and Elizabeth Hunt, Janelle Joosten, and Sophie Stasyna (13).
