Ontario
Hockey
League
announced
that rookie
defenceman
Nick Ebert
of the
Windsor
Spitfires is
the OHL
Player of
the Week for
the week
ending
December 12.
Ebert had
nine points
in three
games
including
three goals
and six
assists. He
becomes both
the first
rookie and
the first
defenceman
to win the
award so far
this season.
Ebert
produced
three
straight
three-point
games
including a
first star
performance
on Thursday
night in a
4-3 win over
the Sault
Ste. Marie
Greyhounds.
He scored
twice and
assisted on
Ryan Ellis’
second
period
game-winner.
On Saturday
night he
recorded
three
assists as
second star
of an 8-5
win over the
Sarnia
Sting,
before
finishing
the week
Sunday with
a goal and
two assists
in a 7-6 win
over the
Kingston
Frontenacs.
His eighth
goal of the
season
Sunday was
scored on
the power
play at
14:58 of the
first period
and
unleashed
more than
1,600 Teddy
Bears onto
the WFCU
Centre ice
in support
of various
Windsor-Essex
County
charities.
Ebert, a
16-year-old
from
Livingston,
New Jersey,
was selected
17th overall
in the 2010
OHL Priority
Selection by
the
Mississauga
St.
Michael’s
Majors
before being
acquired by
the
Spitfires
prior to the
2010-11
season.
Eligible for
the 2012 NHL
Entry Draft,
Ebert leads
all rookie
defencemen
with 25
points in 30
games this
season.
Guelph Storm
teammates
Peter
Holland and
Taylor Beck
receive
honourable
mention for
the award
this week.
Holland
scored three
goals with
six assists
for nine
points while
Beck scored
four goals
and four
assists for
eight points
in four
games
including a
pair of
victories
for the
Storm. In
goal, rookie
Malcolm
Subban of
the
Belleville
Bulls won
two games
posting a
goals-against-average
of 0.960 and
a save
percentage
of .972.
