Jesse Drydak was in on all five Sarnia goals last night as the Legionnaires edged the Chatham Maroons 5-4 in a shootout.
The road victory came one night after the Kent County club had defeated the Legion crew 6-5 in a shootout competition at the Brock Street Barn.
Drydak scored three goals, including the winner, and added two assists.
His linemates were almost as good, with Owen Rogers getting two goals and two helpers, while rookie Nathan Mater set up a pair of goals.
Goalie Kyle Washer made 27 stops, then turned back all five Chatham snipers he faced in the shootout to pick up his 12th win of the season.
The veteran netman now has a brilliant 12-2 won-lost record (plus one extra time loss). With him in the nets, the Legionnaires have picked up 25 of a possible 30 points.
See-saw battle
"It was back-and-forth most of the game,” Sarnia assistant coach Dara Emslie said afterward. “But it was a slow game, there wasn't a lot of emotion to it. Still, it was a good win. Two points is two points.”
In fact, the lead changed hands several times, with the Maroons taking a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after 20 minutes of action. The Legionnaires tied it in the second, only to fall behind before squaring matters again. In the third frame, Sarnia grabbed the lead, then fell behind before tying the contest yet again.
Emslie had words of praise for Washer, saying, “He had a great game, as usual. He stopped them all in the shootout.”
He added, “Owen Rogers had a great game too, his whole line played good.”
