The Lambton Sting Minor Atom AAA team enjoyed a successful weekend as they won a pair of games.
On Friday night the team made the long trek to Brantford to face the 99ers. After a scoreless first period the home team scored a power play goal just 15 seconds into the second frame but the Sting answered quickly with a power play marker of their own less than a minute later. Nolan DeGurse would get the goal with Brock Barber and Jaycob White picking up the assists. Five minutes later the Sting would strike again on the power play as White blasted a hard shot from the point that found the back of the net. DeGurse would earn the assist on the play.
The 99ers carried the play to Lambton in the final 5 minutes of the second period but Sting goaltender Liam McCarthy would be equal to the challenge and made several big saves including a huge glove save to rob Brantford of what they thought was a sure goal.
Early in the third Brantford tied the game on a point shot that eluded McCarthy but the momentum from that goal would go to the Sting rather than the 99ers. The Lambton squad turned it on and took the play to the 99ers for the remainder of the third period. With seven minutes to play the Sting would take a 3-2 lead as DeGurse scored his second of the game assisted by Cole MacKinnon and Spencer Vandenboom. Lambton would round out the scoring three minutes later when Vandenboom converted a nifty pass to the slot by DeGurse to make the final score 4-2. Jaycob White would also draw an assist on the final Sting goal.
Saturday afternoon the Sting faced Chatham-Kent for the first time this season and came away with a 22-0 victory. Spencer Vandenboom had 6 goals while Josh McLean scored 5 times and added 3 assists to pace the offense. All 12 skaters on the club picked up points in the game including Greg Ross (2G 2A), Nolan DeGurse (3G 1A), Hunter Monkhouse (2G 1A), Brock Barber (3 A), Jaycob White (1G 1A), Dylan Riddell (1G 1A), Cole MacKinnon (1G), Brandon Neelin (1G), Ryan Barwitzki (1A) and Blake Brand (1A). Lennex Jagoo earned his first shutout of the season.
The Sting have busy weekend with 4 games next week starting with road games at Chatham-Kent on Saturday and Elgin-Middlesex on Sunday.
