The Point
Edward Atom
Blackhawks
travelled to
Strathroy
for one of a
few mid-week
games in
their
schedule
during
Lambton-Middlesex
league
action and
came away
with a hard
fought 3-1
win over the
Rockets.
The start of
the game saw
both teams
to be
equally
matched with
the crowd
knowing it
was going to
be a close
one and any
mistake by
either team
would give
the opponent
the edge.
Most of the
period saw a
see-saw
battle
between the
blue-lines
with neither
team getting
any prime
opportunities.
Reinders
made a key
save mid-way
through the
period to
keep it 0-0.
Late in the
period, the
Point seemed
to be
gaining some
steam over
the Rockets
as they were
getting a
few good
scoring
chances but
couldn’t
capitalize.
The Rockets
began the
second
period by
keeping the
Hawks away
from their
net.
Strathroy
drew first
blood
mid-way
through the
period when
the Hawks
defense
collapsed
for a brief
moment to
give them a
1-0 lead.
This sparked
the Point as
they began
to put added
pressure on
the Rockets
which
transferred
to a few
cross crease
scoring
chances with
one hitting
the post.
All the
effort paid
off when
Hocking got
a break
during a
Rockets line
change and
made it
count by
hitting the
top shelf to
go into the
third tied
at 1-1.
The third
saw both
teams thirst
for the win
with some
close
chances and
Strathroy
hitting the
post on one
opportunity.
As the
period
progressed,
Boccanfuso
was able to
clear the
zone to an
open Hocking
who brought
the puck up
ice, deked
the defense
and scored
his second
of the game
to give the
Hawks a 2-1
lead. Action
was
end-to-end
at that
point and
Kennedy had
a close
chance to
put the game
out of reach
but couldn’t
put it home.
With seconds
remaining in
the game,
Laframboise
was able to
clear the
zone to an
open Nolan
Gladwish who
got the open
netter and
gave the
Point the
win.
Reinders and
MacDonald
played
awesome in
net and
shared the
win.
