Cyclones get it down low for victory
sarniasports.com December 8th, 2010

The St. Christopher Cyclones got the ball down low and to the basket in their 41-20 victory over the SCITS Blue Bombers Tuesday afternoon at SCITS.

The Cyclones moved the ball around and fed it down low to their big men under the room, who put the ball off the glass and back of the rim for an easy two points. The Cyclones used this system for much of the game, with Sam Ellenor getting his fair share of chances down low in the paint. St. Christopher's also battled hard on the boards, getting their own rebounds and putting them back up for two, while also coming down with SCITS misses, and start a fast break,

The Cyclones took a 13-6 lead in the first quarter. Jadon Harrison got in on the down low play of the Cyclones, while Cary Brown hit a three pointer to help give the Cyclones an opening lead. More of the same happened in the second quarter, as Josh Elsley hit a three pointer, and fed Cyclones in the paint to pick up assists. SCITS would get some offence from C. Sodew, but the Cyclones would continue their pressure, adding another three pointer from Richael O'Neill for a 26-9 lead at the half.

SCITS would work the ball low themselves in the second hald, as K. Smith would get low and put in two. V. Liang would add two plus an extra on the foul to start to cut the lead the Cyclones had created. But SCITS would turn the ball over, and the Cyclones would continue to put in points to keep their lead.

By the fourth, MacIntyre Font would get in on the in the paint play, as the small shooting guard got inside the Blue Bomberdefenders and put up six points in the fourth quarter. Waltham and Rand would get points for the Bombers, but they would not be able to crawl back as the Cyclones take it 41-20.

The Cyclones managed to cause many turnovers, as they would put pressure on the ball carrier as soon as he crossed the half court line, often causing the carrier to stop dribbling and be double teamed, which would result in blind passes that the Cyclones picked up.

St. Christopher's next takes on Northern at home on Thursday, while SCITS travels out to Petrolia to take on LCCVI.
