Legionnaires win streak snapped with 3-2 loss to Strathroy
dan mccaffery December 5th, 2010

STRATHROY – The Sarnia Legionnaires had their four-game winning streak broken here last night.

But the Legion crew didn't go down without a fight, dropping a 3-2 decision to the powerful Strathroy Rockets.

Territorially, the game was exceptionally close, with the visitors outshooting the home team 36-34.

In fact, coach Dan Rose felt his squad outplayed the Rockets over the last two periods.

But Strathroy got off to a fast start, taking a 2-0 lead after one period. Early in the second stanza, the Rockets got a bit of a fluke goal to up their advantage to 3-0.

After that, the Legionnaires took over, outshooting the Rockets 13-4 in the second period and 14-11 in the third.

Captain Tyler Cicchini got Sarnia back in the game just after the halfway point of the second period when he banged in a rebound off a Shawn Waldie point shot. Owen Rogers also drew an assist.

In the third, with the Legionnaires enjoying a two-man advantage, Waldie went hard to the net and was rewarded when the puck deflected in off his skate. Rogers and Jesse Drydak got helpers on the play.

Game notes:

·         In a shameful and frankly pathetic display of homerism, all three stars were Rockets.

·         Waldie now has a team-leading 30 points.

·         The two assists by Rogers gives him 20 points on the campaign.

·         Sarnia was two-for-nine with the man advantage, while Strathroy was one-for-three.

·         After the game, general manager Bob Williamson announced Derek D'Andrea has been assigned to the Mooretown Flags Jr. 'C' club while Chase Clark is now with the Jr. 'C' Alvinston Flyers.

·         Kyle Washer took the loss in net and is now 10-2-1 on the season.
