Kyle Washer has won another major award. It was announced Thursday that the Sarnia Legionnaires veteran has been named the Western Ontario Hockey Conference goalie-of-the-month for November. It marks the second time Washer has won the honour, the last coming in January 2010.
Washer won all four of his starts last month and was named a star in two of those contests.
Here's how he did it:
--- On Nov. 11 Washer made 25 saves and was named second star as Sarnia edged the Strathroy Rockets 6-4.
--- On Nov. 21 Washer kicked out 29 pucks, then stopped all three men he faced in a shootout as Sarnia defeated the Chatham Maroons 5-4 right in the Maple City. He also got the Legionnaires into extra time with a splendid third period breakaway save.
--- On Nov. 25 Washer made 30 saves and was named first star as Sarnia thumped the St. Thomas Stars 5-1.
The 5'10 netman has an overall record of 10-1-1 this season. He also has one shutout, a goals-against-average of 2.70 and a save percentage of 0.920.
After last night's game, in which Sarnia defeated Lambton Shores behind the strong work of goalie Mike Reed, Legionnaires Coach Mike Rose said, “goaltending is the least of our problems.”
