The Wallaceburg Lakers put in an impressive 7-1
victory over the Blenheim Blades following their 7-2
loss to Belle River before Christmas.
Wallaceburg got started with a shorthanded goal by
Sam Jasmin to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Norm
Leger would score his 21st of the season to put the
Lakers up by two. Jordan Pelanger would then add a
powerplay goal with seconds remaining in the first
to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead.
The Lakers
continued in the second to put goals on the board
despite being outshot by the Blades. Dustin Cope
scored unassisted at 15:31 to put the Lakers up by
4. And again, with just seconds remaining in the
period, Nash Lozon would put in the Lakers 5th goal
of the night to end the second.
In the
third it was more Wallaceburg, as Tyson Isaac scored
just 1:09 into the third period. Matt Berglund had
the shutout heading late into the third period and
unfortunately Jarrod Oliphant was about to score
shorthanded to get the Blades on the board and spoil
the shutout. But the Lakers would still skate on the
victory, as Dustin Cope added one more goal to make
it a 7-2 final.
Berglund
stopped 22 of 23 shots in his 20th win of the
season.
Wallaceburg has one more game for 2010, as they take
on Essex at home on Wednesday, December 29th.
