sarniasports.com December 23rd, 2010

The Wallaceburg Lakers were undefeated at home until Wednesday night when they suffered a 7-2 loss to the Belle River Canadiens. Belle River seemingly dominated the play, beating the Lakers to the puck and outshooting them 54-24.

2:53 into the first, Brett Hickey put in the first goal for the Canadiens to give them the 1-0 lead. Wallaceburg would respond minutes later as Wayd Pitfield scored his ninth of the year to tie the game. But Bele River would open up a lead, as Chris DiNatale scored twice for the Canadiens and Donnovan Plummer added one as well, as the Canadiens score three times in four minutes.

The presure continued into the second, as Travis Brown made it 5-1, scoring just 1:18 into the second. Derek Haskel would score midway through the second to put the Canadiens up 6-1, as Belle River held the Lakers to just 5 shots in the period.

Wallaceburg would get on the board again as Garrett Heiser added his first of the season. But Shane Noel would add one more for the Canadiens, as they go on to a 7-2 victory.

Matt Berglund started the game for the Lakers making 23 of 28 saves. Reid Rankin came in and made 26 of 24 saves.

Belle River and Wallaceburg are currently first in both the South and North divisions. Wallaceburg will take on Blenheim on Monday, December 27th.
