Cyclones strong third period puts them past St. Clair
andrew brethauer December 2nd, 2010

The St. Christopher Cyclones could not have asked for a better period then the third period of Wednesday's match up against St. Clair. The Cyclones, tied 3-3 with the Colts after two, scored three goals in just over two minutes to take a 6-3 lead, and finished the period scoring two more for an 8-3 final.

Chad Beauchamp would take the puck from centre and come in on two Colt defenders, snapping a wrist shot low on Colt goaltender Jake Lore thirty-three seconds into the third. A minute later, Keegan Brandon would rip a shot off the faceoff past Lore for his third of the game. Seconds later Scott MacEachern would snap a wrist shot past Lore for the third of the period. Lore, who had played well in the first two periods was removed after the third goal and replaced by Steven Taylor. Unfortunatley St. Christopher's would still add more to their total, as Brandon added his fourth of the game and Pietro Restivo added the eighth goal of the game for the Cyclones.

Things started great for the Colts, as they held the early lead 2-0 after scoring twice in front of the net, beating the Cyclones who up till today, had not allowed a single goal in their previous two games. Denver Spearman had the first goal for St. Clair and Ryan Smith put in the second. St. Clair looked to hand the Cyclones their first loss of the season, but Ben Morrison put in the first for the Cyclones and Brandon put in his first, things got all tied up at two.

Both teams began to shut down defensively, while still getting good shots on net, while the goalies stood strong and kept things close. Brandon had a chance on a breakaway but was brought down and awarded a penalty shot. He made no mistake on the shot, beating a poke checking goalie on the blocker side to give the Cyclones their first lead. Dan Lumley would tie things up St. Clair after being fed from behind the net into the slot and sending a wrist shot to the back of the net.

But the third period proved to be to much for the Colts, and they were handed their second loss of the season while the Cyclones remain undefeated. The Cyclones will travel out to Lambton Shores to take on North Lambton (0-3-0) and look to continue their undefeated streak. The Colts (1-2-0) have scored 15 goals on the season, but allowed 18. They will take on SCITS (0-2-0) who are struggling as well on Monday. December 6th, at Sarnia Arena.
