The Point Edward Tyke Blackhawks
opened the season with an impressive
11-1 win over the visiting Strathroy
White Jr. Rockets this past Saturday
December 3, at Point Edward Memorial
Arena.
The Blackhawks notched their
first goal of the season on rookie
Dylan Sutherland's 1st career goal
five minutes into the contest and
never looked back.
Tyke veteran Wil Vandenboom, the
teams only returning member from
last years squad led the team with 2
goals and 2 assists. Sutherland,
Cameron McCarthy and Ben Crombeen
also had 2 goals apiece including
career 1st for all three.
With a team comprised of 16
rookie skaters the coaching staff
was very, very impressed with the
amount of passing and the game sheet
would tell the same story as many of
the Hawks posted a multiple assist
game, showing team work gets the job
done! Other career firsts were
notched when Alex Simpson, Ryan
Cossa and Owen Brown scored goals in
their season debut.
An 11-1 win did not
come without stellar goaltending
either, as Zach MacDonald stopped
multiple breakaways late in the game
to preserve the win. Nicholas
Hocking was awarded the "Performance
Player of the Game" by his coaching
staff for his hard work and
listening skills during the contest
and showed excellent leadership by
passing to open teammates early in
the game.
The Blackhawks next take the ice
Saturday, December 10th at 10am when
they host the Lambton Shores
Predators in the first of a home and
home series this weekend.
