The Power Champs put an end to the Titans reign in the Sarnia Flag Football finals
DECEMBER 5, 2011

A 6 year dynasty came to end on Sunday December 04 as the Sarnia Flag Football Association played its final game of the season; the Bluewater Cup Championships featuring the up-and-coming Power Champs versus the 6-time defending champs, the Bluewater Power Titans. In a very intense game that had both teams having difficulty moving the ball on offense under strong defense from both sides, the Power Champs held a marginal lead through the game and finally ended the Titan reign defeating them by a score of 14-12.

The Power Champs scored early while the Titans struggled to get going on offense. Late in the 2nd quarter, the Power Champs added another major making the score 12-0 at half.

Late in the 3rd quarter, the Titans finally got on the board making the score 12-06.  It looked like the momentum had shifted as the Titans defense did a goal line stand early in the 4th quarter. However, a safety sack by "the Spider" Jay Mathieu put the Titans down 14-06 with time running out.

But the Titans were not done. With 1 minute to 5 plays left in the game, the Titans scored a touchdown and needed to go for a 2-point convert attempt to tie the game at 14. Titan's receiver Teppa Wettergreen seemed successful in the attempt and the game seemed certain for overtime, however, the officials on the field ruled the play dead due to an infraction at the goal line. With the ball returning to the Power Champs and 5 plays remaining there was little the Titans could do but wait for the hammer to fall and with that, putting an end to the Titan chance at a 7th straight championship.

Congratulations to the Power Champs who were 1st place after regular season and are now crowned the SFFA Champions for 2011.

The SFFA would like to thank the players and all the supporters for a great season. With this season complete, the SFFA is already looking to expand southward in 2012 with the a high chance that Chatham will form the South Conference of the SFFA.
