Sarnia
Express Senior Ladies AA hockey team
played a home and away game recently,
winning at home, then dropping their
second game after a very long undefeated
streak.
Game one saw
Sarnia facing the London Intermediate
team. The Express scored early in the
showdown when Lacey Cote was in perfect
position to pick up a rebound and put it
in the net. Jocelyn Steadman and Nicky
Futers both assisted. Shortly after
Jenna Whitfield would fish the puck out
from behind the net and feed it to
Teresa Futers, who would tuck it away to
bring Sarnia up 2-0. Nicky Futers picked
up another assist. Still dominating the
game, the Express would take a penalty
and go shorthanded but Brandi Warner
would fight off the opposition to go in
alone and score another one for Sarnia.
Sheila Meyskins assisted. Brandi Warner
would get her second of the game when
defenseman Michelle Jenner would cycle
the puck to Jenna Whitfield and back to
the point where Brandi would fire a hard
slap shot. The London goalie never had a
chance. The game would finish 4-0.
This was
Lisa Meyers’ well earned third shutout.
Sarnia would
then travel to London for a late evening
game against London Senior AA team. It
would be their first meeting. Although
going into the third period still tied
thanks to the brilliant goaltending of
Kate Rawlings, Sarnia finally gave up a
pair of goals to the Devilettes.
Unfortunately, Sarnia was unable to come
back and the game would finish 2-0. This
broke the Express’ 7 game winning
streak.
