Our local high schools are in action this week, as
Sarniasports.com looks at three key match ups.
St.
Christopher Cyclones - OFSSA Basketball
The St. Christopher Cyclones were ranked the 3rd
seed and will take on (18) Twin Lakes secondary
school in their first round match up Monday morning
at 9:30 a.m. The Cyclones are coming off a emotional
LSSAA victory over the Northern Vikings while also
defeating the Essex Red Raiders for the SWOSSAA
finals to head to North Bay to represent the
Sarnia/Windsor area. The tournament begins Monday
and ends on Wednesday. If the Cyclones do lose in
the first round, they have one more opportunity to
capture the OFSSA.
St.
Clair Colts - SWOSSAA Hockey 1A/2A finals
The St. Clair Colts had a turn around season and
find themselves playing for the SWOSSAA championship
and a chance to represent the Sarnia/Windsor area in
Timmins for the OFSSA finals. The Colts will take on
either F.J. Brennan (Windsor) or General Amherst (Amherstburg)
on Wednesday, March 9th at the Clearwater Red arena
at 2:30 p.m.
Northern Vikings - SWOSSAA Hockey 3A/4A finals
Northern will take on St. Thomas of Villanova
(Windsor) These two teams met each other earlier in
the year at the Shamrock Invitational Tournament in
November. In the gold medal game of that tournament,
the Northern Vikings captured the Shamrock
Invitational 2010 title with an exciting 2 to 1 win
in the final over St.Thomas of Villanova from
LaSalle. Both teams had finished the round robin
with 3-0-0 records. Northern is coming off a slow
start season, but with a late season surge and upset
of St. Christopher's in the semi-finals, the Vikings
fell to champions St. Clair 2-1 in the LSSAA finals.
Game time is set for 3:00p.m. at the Clearwater
arena, blue side.
