The Courtright Cardinals won the first game of the
Western
Counties Baseball league playdowns Thursday night,
defeating Petrolia 13-0 in Courtright.
After a
scoreless first inning, the Cardinals got on the
board after C.J. Donahue cashed in a pair of runs
with a single with the bases loaded to opening the
scoring. Another single would load the bases again,
and an infield hit would give Courtright a 3-0 lead
after a close play at the plate was ruled safe.
Another
hit would be bobbled by the Petrolia short stop,
resulting in another run. A sack fly would cash in
another run , and a single to outfield would cash in
one more, as the Cardinals would score 6 in the
inning to open the game.
In the
bottom of the 4th, the Cardinals would continue to
add to their total, as Mark Colbran would hut a two
run homerun, his first of the season to make it 8-0.
Courtright would add two more runs off singles,
followed by an error for another score to push their
lead to 12-0 after 4 innings.
With the
game in hand, the Cardinals looked to close out the
game, scoring one more run in the bottom of the 6th
to win the game 13-0.
With the
victory Courtright is now looking towards their game
on August 8th with Corunna. Petrolia, Courtright and
Corunna will play each other in a home and home,
with the two best teams moving into a best of three
final for the opportunity to represent the WCPL in
the Provincial Championships.
