Sting top line steal show at Black and White Game
andrew brethauer August 30th, 2011

Sarnia, ON - Despite being shorthanded, Alex Galchenyuk was able to lasso the puck in Team White's zone before spotting Nail Yakupov in front for an easy tap in, as Team Black edged Team White 5-4.

Yakupov's shorthanded winner was his second of the night and came with 12.5 seconds remaining in the third period. It was the third time the speedy Russians name was on the score sheet, as Yakupov scored two in the game, and and assisted on Reid Boucher's goal at the start of the third. Galchenyuk was in on both goals as well, as arguably the Sting's opening day first line of Reid Boucher, Nail Yakupov and Alex Galchenyuk combined for 6 points on the night.

Team White got off to an early start, leading 2-1 after the first, as young players Louie Rowe and Mikey Soucier scored. Soucier, 16, was heavily involved in many scoring chances for his team, scoring his goal with a wrist shot just under the cross bar that beat goalie Brandon Hope.

The second period saw Sarnia's checking lines get in on the goal scoring action, as Domenic Alberga and Justin Thomas each scored goals from their respected sides. Head Coach Jacques Beaulieu said in previous interviews that a checking line would be part of his plan for the new Sting, Both showed they have the grit and toughness, as each dropped the gloves in the team game, while also being big parts of the fore-check.

Brett Ritchie also found the score sheet, while the Dallas Stars draft pick continues to work out with his new line mates of Ludvig Rensfeldt and Taylor Carnevale, who have yet to find the scoring touch they were brought in to do, but remain a solid second line behind the scoring line.

Sarnia's draft picks have also faired well, as 2nd round steal Anthony DeAngelo has look mighty impressive on the Sarnia blue line, chipping in an assist, while constantly being an offensive threat. DeAngelo will likely spearhead the powerplay with Sting captain Nathan Chiarlitti.

Sarnia's first round pick, Ryan Kujawinski has been lost on the score sheet, and has not stood out amongst the heaps of talent brought into the Sarnia system. With Beaulieu' 4th prospect line, Kujawinski could find there, as the 16-year-old still finds his game in Sarnia.

The Sting continue to practice Wednesday and Thursday before heading to London to face the Knights on Friday, and again on Saturday at home.
