Strathroy, ON - With another four goal performance,
the Sarnia Legionnaires won their second preseason
game against the Strathroy rockets, with Brett
Thompson ending the game at 2:14 left in overtime to
give Sarnia 4-3 win.
Coming off
the victory against the Rockets on Thursday which
saw the Legionnaires score three powerplay goals,
Sarnia got right back to it, as Jeff Pauley scored
on Sarnia's second powerplay opportunity to make it
1-0. Strathroy would finally get a goal passed a
Sarnia netminder midway through the first, as Liam
Gillooy made it a 1-1 game after the first period.
In the
second, the Legionnaires started on the penalty
kill, but it didn't stop them from using it to their
advantage, as Derek D'Andrea scored shorthanded just
twenty seconds into the period to give Sarnia a 2-1
one. But off the powerplay, Strathroy would get one
back themselves, as Trevor Thornton made it 2-2.
But still
not finished in the period, D'Andrea would find the
back of the net again for his second of the period,
once again giving the Legionnaires a lead after the
2nd period.
In the
third, Strathroy would come out firing, putting 15
shots on net, their most all game. Matt Ross would
tie things up again with under five minutes to go,
sending the game into overtime, where Thompson would
eventually win it for Sarnia.
Sarnia
played two goalies again, as Andrew Ganter played
half the game, stopping 16 of 18 shots he faced,
while Sean Parker, who will be Kyle Washer's back up
this season, stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced in
the victory.
Sarnia was
again without last years leading scorer Jesse Drydak.
Sarnia
will next take on London in a home and home,
starting with the game in London on August 31st.
