After more then a week off, the Alvinston Indians
opened up their second season, when they traveled to
Glencoe to face the Astros, in the first game of
their best 2 out of 3 quarterfinal series.
The game was a tight affair, with Aaron Stocking
doing the only damage in the first 4 innings, when
he clubbed a solo home run for Alvinston, in the top
of the second inning, to provide an early 1-0 lead
for the road team. However, Glencoe was finally able
to notch the game at 1's, when they scored an
unearned run after a throwing error for Alvinston
and a close play at the plate. The game would remain
tied through seven innings, with both team's
pitchers throwing strong games.
In the eighth inning, the rust finally came off for
Alvinston after their one week layoff, when the
Indians pieced together back to back to back singles
to score the go-ahead run. Chris Drew singled, Jeff
Ingram followed with a single, and Brad Young did
the same, and collected an RBI by plating Drew. Jeff
Lyons then drove in the insurance run, when he
singled to score Ingram. Young then scored on an RBI
groundout by Eric Hyatt, as the Indians added three
runs in their half of the eighth, for a 4-1 lead.
That was enough, as Brad Young was masterful in this
game, tossing a complete game 3 hitter for
Alvinston. Young threw 8 innings of ball, allowing
the 3 hits, one unearned run, no walks, and he
fanned 7 Glencoe swingers.
Next up for Alvinston is game 2 on Thursday night in
Alvinston, beginning at 8:00pm.
