Flags honour players at year end ceremony

The Mooretown Flags held their annual awards ceremony Friday night and handed out six awards and jerseys to overage players.

The first award was the Orville Druiett Memorable trophy which went to Alex Dawson for best defenceman of the year. Dawson scored 5 goals and 9 assists for the Flags in 34 games last season, with 4 of is goals coming on the powerplay.

The second award was the Robbie Beaton Memorial award which went to Tyler Prong for Rookie of the Year. Prong had a successful season with the Flags, scoring 3 goals and 20 assists, including 13 of those on the powerplay while playing in all 40 games last season.

The Clarence 'Slash' Evans Memorial trophy was presented to Cody Hardman for the teams most sportsmanlike player. Hardman had 3 goals and 7 assists on the season and spent only 2 minutes in the penalty box in 37 games. 

The Garry McDonald Memorial trophy was presented to Jake Currie and is the coaches award. Currie had 3 goals and 7 assists in 39 games last season with the Flags.

The Ross McCormick Memorial trophy was presented to Jason Teschke for the teams most valuable player. Teschke lead the Flags in scoring, as well as the league with 35 goals and 37 assists in 39 games last season. He also added 8 goals and 13 assists in 10 playoff game appearances.

The Ron 'Pork' Laur Scholarship award was presented to Kurt Glowa who had 11 goals and 8 assists for the Flags last season.

As well at the ceremony, Donny Bowling and Adam Little were presented with the Overage Sweater presentation. Both assistant captains for the Flags, Bowling had 7 goal and 3 assists on the season, while Little ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 13 goals and 16 assists on the blue line.

The Flags finished in second place in the North Division with a 19-19-2 record. After defeating the Alvinston Flyers in five games in the first round, they fell Belle River in five games. Head coach Bruce Aberhart as well as Asst. Coaches Jordan Pennesi and Seth Lippiatt will return next season as well as Adam Little into a coaching role.
