Pacers start season out with a loss
sarniasports.com April 23rd, 2011

The Sarnia Jr B Pacers didn't start their 2011 lacrosse season on the right foot, as the Pacers travelled to Windsor and lost 16-9 to the Clippers.

In took only 15 seconds for the Clippers to get on the board in the first period and make it 1-0, before scoring two more by midway through the first period. Aaron Schieman got the Pacers on the board to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Pacers would give up a shorthand, even strength and powerplay goal before Lance Ross could finally get the Pacers back on the board. Windsor would score two more times before the period ended to take an 8-2 lead after the first.

In the second, Sarnia came to life, scoring three in a row to cut into the lead. Lance Ross, Josh Eldridge and Dan Charlton made it an 8-5 game, but Steve Hinek of Windsor scored twice to put the Clippers back in front by double. But before the period was out, Ross would score his third of the game, but the Pacers still trailed 10-6 after two periods of play.

In the third, Sarnia looked to again cut into the lead, as Charlton got his second of the game, and nine seconds later Ben Tammking scored his first to make it a 10-8 game. Windsor would get back on the board, followed by another Sarnia goal by Dan Gawne at the 2:19 mark of the third period.

From there it was all Windsor, as the Clippers scored five unawanswered goals, including Brett Hickey getting two more for 4 in the game, helping to lead the Clippers to a 16-9 victory.

Justin Matthews took the loss for the Pacers, while Brendan Stevenson took the victory for the Clippers.

Sarnia will open their home season on Wednesday, April 27th, as the London Blue Devils come to town.
