sarniasports.com April 6th, 2011

The Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD had to settle for silver medals in the Alliance MD West Finals as they fell to the London Nationals 2-1 in double overtime at the Germain Arena on Sunday April 3.

In a race to four points for the championship Sarnia started out strong in London winning game one by a score of 4 - 0. London came to Sarnia for game two and tied the Jr. Sting (after an overtime period) 4 - 4. Game three in London was a heartbreaking overtime loss for the Jr. Sting as London scored with 36 seconds left on the clock for the victory.

Game 4 was a defensive battle between these two very evenly matched teams. Both teams fought hard all game much to the delight of the many spectators watching and after a scoreless first period Sarnia would get the games first goal in the
2nd. Hayden Griffin would score with the assist going to Zander Campbell. The score would remain 1 - 0 for Sarnia until the mid way point of the third when London would tie it up while short handed on a shot from the left side of the net.

For the third game in a row overtime would be needed to decide the outcome and Sarnia came out strong. The play would
be in the London end for much of the overtime and the Nationals goalie was very busy keeping his team in the game. In
the 2nd overtime the Nationals would crash the Sarnia net and push the puck over the goal line on a broken play to win the game.

The Jr. Sting boast an impressive record finishing first overall in the regular season, coming in second in the play downs, and winning the semi-final playoff round vs. the Stratford Warriors which will allow them to compete in the Alliance Provincial MD Tournament this weekend in Stratford.
