Local wrestlers move on to Nationals
sarniasports.com April 13th, 2011

Members of the Sarnia Bluewater Wrestling Club qualify for the Canadian National Team this past weekend at the Canadian National Wrestling Championships at the University of Windsor.

Local wrestlers earned the right to enter this trials tournament on Sunday April 10 based on their performance at the National Championships April 7-9.

Eighteen members of the Sarnia / Bluewater Wrestling Club competed in this three day event that featured about 700 of the top high school wrestlers in Canada. The Cadet age group is open to athletes in grades 9 and 10 and the Juvenile is for grades 11 and 12. Each athlete competed as part of Team Ontario and had previously qualified through the Provincial Championships in February.

The FILA – Cadet Trials is the event to choose our National Team to several events including the World Championships in Hungary and the Pan American Championships in Mexico. FILA - Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées is the International Governing Body for all wrestling in the world and works with Lutte Canada Wrestling to sanction these events. The FILA – Cadet event is for athletes in grades 9,10,11.
