Thirteen-year-old Liam Young earned 1st-place finishes in the 100M Individual Medley (IM), 50M butterfly and the 400M freestyle at a St. Clair Erie Aquatic League (SEAL) swim meet in Wallaceburg in early April. He also placed 3rd in the 100M backstroke and 100M breaststroke. He was joined by 26 of his teammates from the Sarnia Y Rapids I Swim Team.
Three of them swam with Liam on a relay team that finished in 1st place: Liam’s brother Luke, 12, who also came 4th in the 400M freestyle, 5th in the 100M backstroke and 6th in the 100M IM, 50M butterfly and 100M breaststroke; Nadia Cartwright, 12, who placed 2nd in the 100M IM, 3rd in the 400M freestyle, and 4th in the 50M butterfly and 100M breaststroke; and Hannah Lacey, 11, who had 3 top-10 finishes.
Other swimmers also had impressive results. Nadine Osmon, 9, finished 2nd in the 100M IM and 25M butterfly, 5th in the 25M backstroke and 25M breaststroke and 6th in the 400M freestyle. Hunter Small, 11, placed 3rd in the 50M breaststroke and 5th in the 100M IM, 50M butterfly and 50M backstroke. Hayley Robertson, 12, had all top-10 finishes, including 4th in the 100M freestyle, 5th in the 100M IM, and 6th in the 50M butterfly. Sophie Stasyna, 13, finished 4th in the 100M IM, 5th in the 400M freestyle and 6th in the 100M breaststroke. Dylan Cloud, 10, came 4th in the 50M breaststroke and 6th in the 100M IM, 50M butterfly and 50M backstroke. Kaiden Rawson, 8, earned 5th place in the 100M IM and 25M butterfly, and 6th in the 50M freestyle. Mavi Deol, 10, came 5th in the 100M freestyle and 6th in the 50M breaststroke. Samantha Bedard, 9, finished 5th in the 100M IM. Magaidh Crossland, 12, earned a 6th place finish in the 100M freestyle.
Ayrianna Batson, 7, earned top-10 finishes in all of her individual events. Jack Biggar, 9, took almost 10 seconds off his time in the 100M IM, while Ally Core, 10, shaved 12 seconds off her time and Emma Devine, 9, took 18 seconds off hers, in the same event. Jena Devine, 11, hit a personal best time in the 100M IM and 50M butterfly. Mckenna Jackson and Ella Roland, both 8, improved their personal best times in all their individual events, while Erin Lacey, also 8, bested her times in the 100M IM, 25M butterfly and 25M backstroke. Madison McKinlay and Courtney Murray, both 12, each improved their times while achieving top 10 finishes in multiple events. Lauren Murray, 9, improved her time in the 100M IM by 5 seconds. Nes Tulang, 9, had four top-10 finishes. Olivia Voisey, 8, and Abby Warren, 9, each took time off their personal bests in multiple events.
