Hollie Anne Jean Named SMAA Junior Bowler of the Year at Annual Banquet

Minor Athletic Association finished up their 2015-16 season with
an awards banquet at Marcin Bowl that included naming the
Bowler of the Year for the Junior Ten Pin program.
In looking for the winner of this achievement award the
Executive looks at different criteria for the bowlers. Based on
attendance, bowler improvement, helping with the program and
attitude amongst others. This years Bowler of the year was
awarded to Hollie-Anne Jean.
Hollie Anne is a Junior in the program and has been a Junior
Bowler for the past 5 years. This year Hollie has improved her
average and done very well in the tournaments she has entered.
She has won in house awards as well. Hollie gives back to the
bowling program as a Junior coach every Saturday morning. Her
interests are in bowling and horses. It was history repeating
itself as Hollie’s father Shawn, won Bowler of the Year twenty
plus years ago. It is a first for the SMAA program that a
parent/bowler has achieved this award.
2015-16 Season
A slight increase in bowler numbers that led to more
participation in out of town and local tournaments proved very
successful for the bowlers and the program. Scholarship monies
were awarded to bowlers in the majority of tournaments that were
entered.
“What some people don’t realize is that Ten Pin Bowling affords
the bowlers the chance to win scholarship monies in every
sanctioned tournament they enter." said Head coach Gil Jean
"I can’t think of any other youth sports program that offers
that kind of incentive. Youth bowling is a very affordable sport
for the Lambton County youth. This is due largely to the
sponsors that support our program. Out of town tournaments eat
up a large portion of the budget, and quite frankly couldn’t be
done without their support."
Jean added special thanks and appreciation to Investors Group,
Sarnia Lake Shore Optimists, Lanxess, Legion Branch 62, Marcin
Bowl, Mechanical Contractors Association and Ntensity Customs
who sponsored this years program.
