The Sarnia Sting
clawed back from a 4-1 deficit
in the third period to win 6 -
4, their 6th straight game and
set new franchise records for
most wins in a season (42) and
most points in a season (91).
Travis Konecny led the third
period surge for the Sting,
tallying four of his game-high
five points in the final stanza
and reaching the 100 point
plateau for this first time in
his OHL career. In 60 games
played, Konecny’s season total
is now up to 101 points (30
goals and 71 assists). For his
efforts, the Flyers prospect was
named the game’s first star.
Draft-eligible centre, Anthony
Salinitri opened the scoring for
the Sting with his first of two
on the night. Zachary Core and
Travis Konecny drew the assists.
The Spirit would go on to score
3 unanswered to close out the
first period, and add another in
the second stanza to make it 4-1
after 40:00. Hayden Hodgson,
Will Petschenig, Blake Clarke
and Connor Brown each tallied
singles for Saginaw.
Travis Konecny would kick off
the third period rally, scoring
on the power play just 2:11 into
the final frame. Pavel Zacha and
Jakob Chychrun would be credited
with the assists.
Less than four minutes later,
Salinitri would bang home his
second of the night and 16th of
the season to make it a one goal
game. Core and Konecny would
draw helpers.
Midway through the third,
Konecny would blast home his
30th goal of the season and
100th point of the year, tying
the game up at 4’s. Pavel Zacha
and Matt Mistele drew assists on
the power play marker.
Just over 2:00 later, Jordan
Kyrou eluded the defender and
beat Evan Cormier on the glove
side for the eventual
game-winning goal. Anthony
Salinitri was awarded an assist.
Jakob Chychrun would go on to
add an insurance goal on the
power play, and the Sting skated
away with a 6-4 win at the Dow.
Aidan Hughes earned his second
win in as many nights, turning
aside 23/27 shots.
The Sting close out the Regular
