Sarnia Sting Added Another Win Friday

The Sarnia Sting
added another one to the win
column on Friday night, knocking
off the Kitchener Rangers by a
score of 5-2. With the two
points, the Sting have tied the
Franchise record for most
victories in a single season (41
in 02/03) and are just 1 point
shy of the single season points
record (90).
Rookie forward Ryan McGregor
jammed home his 10th and 11th
goals of the campaign in the win
while Anthony Salinitri (14),
Nikita Korostelev (23) and
Brandon Lindberg (9) each added
singles. Freshman goaltender
Aidan Hughes was solid between
the pipes for the Sting, turning
aside 29 of 31 shots for the
win.
The Sting rested key pieces,
Travis Konecny, Matt Mistele,
Sam Studnicka, Kevin Spinozzi
and Charlie Graham tonight, but
were still able to pull out the
win at the Aud. Justin Fazio,
Patrick White and Connor
Schlichting were out due to
injury.
Having already secured the top
seed in the West Division, the
Sting added Jacob Stos, Brock
Perry and Derrick Johnson for
tonight’s road game. Defenceman,
Derrick Johnson earned his first
career OHL assist on the
Korostelev goal in his first
career OHL game.
Ryan McGregor opened the scoring
with a rebound goal at 9:31 of
the first period. Jordan Kyrou
was credited with the lone
assist.
Korostelev would make it 2-0
Sting before the end of the
second period, pouncing on a
rebound and beating Opilka
between the pads. Salinitri and
Johnson drew the helpers.
Anthony Salinitri would give the
Sting a 3-0 lead at 10:29 of the
second period, shoveling home
the Zacha feed on the powerplay.
Nikita Korostelev was awarded
the second assist.
Kitchener would draw within one,
getting goals from Darby
Llewellyn and Kevin Miller to
make it a 3-2 game. With just
over 5:00 remaining in the third
period, Ryan McGregor fired him
the insurance goal, securing the
two points for the Sting.
Lindberg would add an
empty-netter with just seconds
remaining on the clock.
The Sting travel to Saginaw on
Saturday to take on the Spirit
for the last time this season
before returning to the SSEC on
Sunday night for their Regular
Season finale against the
Windsor Spitfires.
With Owen Sound beating the
Storm earlier tonight, it has
been confirmed that the Sting
will play the Greyhounds in
Round One of the OHL Playoffs.
The series will get underway on
Friday, March 25 at the SSEC.
Tickets for game’s 1 and 2 are
now available online and at the
box office.

the night and was a +3 with 5
SOG
•McGregor was named the game’s
first star, Salinitri the
second, and Llewellyn of the
Rangers, third.
•The Sting PP was 1/3 while the
PK was a perfect 3/3. Sarnia’s
PK is now tops in the OHL.
