Area Youth Bowlers Competed at Provincial Championships

Bowling Scores for Week Ending Jan 30, 2016
The two day Ivan Nelson Memorial Youth
Provincial Championship Scratch
Tournament was held on January
16 & 17 at Classic Bowl in
Mississauga with 238 bowlers
participating in eight different
divisions.
There were six qualifying games
on Saturday with the top eight
bowlers in each division
returning on Sunday to bowl
match play resulting in seven
more games.
On Sunday, the eight qualifiers
in each division bowled together
on the same set of lanes, moving
after each game. Two points was
awarded for beating your
opponent plus an additional one
to eight points could be won for
the best scores on the lanes in
descending order. Bowlers with
the most points in each division
will represent Southern Ontario
against other Canadian provinces
this year in the Canadian Youth
Championships at St. Catherines.
The fifteen LCTA bowlers from
Marcin Bowl and Hi-Way Bowl who
participated in the tournament
were Devon Crowe, Jacob Bestard,
Jarod Pelkie, Morgan Pelkie,
Hollie-Ann Jean, Domenic
Cocozzoli, Ben Lapointe, Dalton
Crowe, Joshua Trott, Taelor
Koundakjian, Kira Pelkie, Connor
Smith, Brett Zevenbergen, Chris
Crawley and Rachel McGrath.
Four LCTA bowlers advanced to
the Sunday match play
competition. Domenic Cocozzoli
qualified 2nd in the
Intermediate Boys division
averaging 201 with high games of
253 and 229. Ben Lapointe
qualified 3rd in the same
division averaging 199 with high
games of 243 and 229. Morgan
Pelkie qualified 3rd
in the Junior Girls division
averaging 175 with a high game
of 201. Connor Smith qualified 7th
in the Senior Boys division
averaging 200 with high games of
221, 229, 211 and 220.
Four other LCTA bowlers narrowly
missed the cut line by different
pin counts in their respect
divisions. They were Devon Crowe
(-4), Hollie-Ann Jean (-9),
Taelor Koundakjian (-27) and
Rachel McGrath (-30). A perfect
game was rolled in the
tournament for the first time.
