Brock Perry led the Sarnia Legionnaires to their second straight victory Thursday.

The lanky forward scored two goals and set up a third as the Legion crew doubled the St. Marys Lincolns 6-3.

With the triumph, Sarnia improved its record to 19-16-2-3. The team remains in sixth place in the nine-team Western Jr. 'B' hockey loop but finds itself only two points back of fifth ranked LaSalle.

The Legionnaires jumped into a quick lead, with defenceman Brad Yowart coming off the point on a power play to fire the puck into the open side of the net from close range. He was set up by Ryan Vendramin, who fed him a perfect cross-ice pass. Perry also got a helper on the play.

Yowart now has nine goals to his credit, tops among Sarnia rearguards.

Not long after that, Jordan Fogarty buried a passout from behind the net from Alec DeKoning to make it 2-0 for the home team. Konnor Roskovich also had a hand in what was Fogarty's 15th of the campaign.

But the Lincs stormed back with two tallies of their own to deadlock matters at the end of 20 minutes of action.

"After the first period we had a long chat about playing hard the whole time and they were able to do that over the last two periods,” Sarnia assistant coach Tom Norris said.

In fact, the Legionnaires scored the only goal of the middle frame, with Perry connecting from Brandon Layman and Eric Marsh.

In the final stanza the Legionnaires dominated play, getting goals from Layman (his 19th), Perry (his 15th) and Jacob Stos (his sixth).

Afterward, Norris had praise for the play of goalie Shayne Battler, who made 21 saves on his way to his 12th win of the season.

"Battler is doing well for us,” Norris said. “He's doing what he's got to do.”

The Legionnaires fired 33 shots on Lincs goalies Paul Town and Emanuel Vella.

Game notes:

  • Perry may be suspended because, after scoring his second goal, he took his helmet off to inspect a bloody mouth. Players are not allowed to remove their head gear at any time when they are on the ice. There was no penalty to the St. Marys player who cut him with a high stick.

  • Sarnia defenceman Sam McCormack was also cut by a high stick but a penalty was called on that infraction.

  • The Legionnaires have officially clinched a playoff spot.

  • St. Marys goals were scored by Brent House, Nathan Smith and Graham Brulotte.

  • Fogarty's goal was the 100th point of his junior career.

  • Sarnia plays the Lambton Shores Predators in Forest Saturday before travelling to Strathroy for a Sunday contest with the Rockets. Their next home game is next Thursday, when they host the LaSalle Vipers.
