ST. THOMAS The Sarnia
Legionnaires lost a tense
goaltenders' duel here
Friday.
The St. Thomas Stars upended
the Legion crew 2-0 with the
second goal going into an
empty net during the final
minute of play.
Dan Black got the shutout,
turning aside all 29 shots
he faced.
The Stars had 24 shots on
Sarnia netminder Aidan
Hughes, who also had an
outstanding game.
"Aidan played a really good
game," Farlow said. "He
didn't have much of a chance
on the one goal that did
beat him."
Farlow added the
Legionnaires were a little
unlucky at times. In the
third period we rang a shot
off both goal posts and out.
We had some good chances.
He added the Sarnians played
a solid defensive game and
worked hard all night long.
"The work ethic was there,
he said.
Adam Truax scored the
winning goal at the 6:59
mark of the first period,
with Ethan Nother bagging
the empty netter.
Both teams were 0-for-3 with
the man advantage.
With the setback Sarnia's
record fell to 16-12-1-3,
leaving them in sixth place
in the Western Ontario
Hockey Conference standings,
two points back of the fifth
ranked LaSalle Vipers. The
Legionnaires have two games
in hand on the Vipers.
Sarnia returns to action
Sunday when it travels to
Leamington to face the first
place Flyers.
Their next home game is next
Thursday, when they host the
London Nationals. Puck drop
at Sarnia Arena is set for
7:10 p.m.
