In a very workman like effort, the Sarnia Sting beat the Guelph Storm 5-2, Sunday night before 2,894 at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.

In beating the Storm, Sarnia swept the three games in three nights weekend after beating the Barrie Colts at home on Friday Night and the Owen Sound Attack on the road the following evening.

Patrick White, scored a pair of goals while Anthony Salinitri amd Matt Mistele had a goal and an assist for the Sting. Nikita Korostelev also tallied a single goal for Sarnia. Justin Fazio picked up the win in net after stopping 30 of 32 shots.

Jake Bricknell and James McEwan scored goals for Guelph. Bradley Van Schubert registered 49 saves for the Storm, who were out shot 54-32.

After a scoreless first period, Sarnia and Guelph combined to score six goals in the middle frame. Mistele gave the Sting their first goal at 2:27 from Jakob Chychrun and Anthony Salinitri. The Storm quickly tied it 42 seconds later on a goal from McEwan, with the assists awarded to Liam Stevens and Givani Smith.

Sarnia jumped back ahead on an unassisted goal from Nikita Korostelev at the six minute mark. It was Korostelev's 18th goal on the season.

At 10:56 Patrick White increased the Sting lead to 3-1, with his 15th of the season - assisted by Brandon Lindberg. The Storm got one back on a goal from Bricknell. Salinitri got it back with his 12th from Mistele and Kevin Spinozzi to finish off a wild second period of scoring.

The only goal in the third period came from Sarnia as White notched his second of the night scoring into an empty net at 18:33. Fazio got the only assist as the Sting picked up another important two points.

Sting Notebook:

  • Travis Konecny saw his 14 game point streak come to an end. During that hot stretch Konecny scored 11 goals and 15 assists.

  • Patrick White was named first star, Anthony Salinitri, the second star and the third star went to Storm goaltender Bradley Van Schubert.

  • Neither team had a power play goal as Sarnia went 0/5 and Guelph failed to convert on three chances.

  • With only 8 games left on the regular season schedule, next week Sarnia will be at home twice taking on Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday night and then the Spitfires on Friday.
