The Sarnia
Legionnaires are going to have
to find a way to score on the
power play if they hope to
survive very long in the
playoffs.
That was the
message head coach Mark Davis
had after watching his Jr. 'B'
hockey club fall 6-3 to the
Chatham Maroons Thursday.
The Legion crew
was 0-for-7 with the man
advantage. If that wasn't bad
enough, it allowed three Chatham
shorthanded goals (although in
fairness, one was into an empty
net).
“Our power play
needs work,” Davis said. “We
played a period and a half,
after that it was garbage. I
might change it (the power play)
around.”
Sarnia goals were
scored by Brandon Layman, Jarret
Marks (who found the back of the
net with a shorthanded,
unassisted effort) and Eric
Marsh.
Midget callup
Nash Neinhuis had an assist in
the game, which was played
before more than 1,400 fans at
the Brock Street barn.
Connor Koviak had
two goals for the Maroons, with
singles going to Steven
Beenackers, Teddy McGeen, Devin
Panzeca and Ian Faubert.
Chatham outshot
Sarnia 41-34. Parker Butler got
the win, with Aidan Hughes
suffering the loss.
The Legionaries
close out the regular season
Saturday when they travel to
Forest to take on the Lambton
Shores Predators.
Playoffs begin
next week, with the Legionnaires
facing either LaSalle or
Chatham. Davis has no
preference, saying, “We're in
tough either way.”
