In game one Tuesday night in Essex it was another close game but the Flags came away with a 2 - 1 loss.

"
Overall I'm very happy with the way we played." said head coach Doug Slipacoff "We just need to tighten it up and bring a more consistent effort for 60 minutes."

After a scoreless first period Essex took a 1 - 0 lead in the second when Tyler Scott scored the only goal of the period at 2:16.

Early in the third period with :13 seconds off the clock the 73's scored to take a 2 - 0 lead. Matthew Hebert scored the second goal for the 73's.

Just under the five minute mark Nolan Riley scored for the Flags on a power play with Alec Segers picking up the assist.  Despite pulling the goalie in the dying minutes, the Flags couldn't generate any opportunities and the 73's took the first win.

"They (Essex) were very solid defensively and we're able to keep us from gaining momentum.  We showed character keeping the game close and not giving up." said Slipacoff

Essex outshot Mooretown 37 - 19.  Brandon Johnson took the loss in net for the Flags made 35 saves.  Trevor Wheaton made 18 saves in the win.

"Brandon Johnson was outstanding in net and we had a lot of positives tonight but a bad break on their second goal ends up being the difference." Slipacoff said

Mooretown scored once on three power play opportunities, Essex went zero on two chances.

The Flags and 73's are back in action tonight (Wednesday Feb 24)  in Mooretown for game two at 8:00 pm at the Moore Sports Complex.
