Matt Mistele scored five goals
and Ryan McGregor added a pair
and an assist to power the
Sarnia Sting to an 11-4 win over
the Saginaw Spirit on Monday
afternoon. Sarnia had nine
players with multiple points in
their biggest goal production of
the season, before a RBC -
Family Day crowd of 4,161 at the
Sarnia Sports and Entertainment
Centre.
In addition to Mistele and
Mcgregor, Patrick White and Troy
Lajeunesse had a goal and an
assist each while Devon Paliani
had three assists against his
former team. Jakob Chychrun,
Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Zacha and
Sam Studnicka contributed a pair
of assists each. Even Sting
goaltender Justin Fazio found
the score sheet with an assist.
Fazio stopped 24 of 28 shots for
the win.
Kris Bennett scored twice and
Kirill Maksimov had a goal and
an assist for Saginaw.

The Sarnia Sting struck in rapid
fashion in the first period with
five goals, chasing Saginaw
goaltender Evan Cormier at the
9:11 mark. Matt Mistele scored
the first goal after a nice feed
from Sam Studnicka, Devon
Paliani also assisted on the
goal at 3:27. White made it 2-0
from Anthony Salinitri and
Connor Schlichting less than
three minutes later. Kevin
Spinozzi extended the lead to
3-0, from Ryan McGregor and
Jordan Kyrou at 8:33. Sarnia
added a power play goal for
their fourth marker at 11:08 on
Mistele’s second goal of the
period, with the assists going
to Travis Konecny and Jakob
Chychrun.
Lajeunesse scored unassisted at
17:35, to wrap up the period.
Sarnia outshot Saginaw 15-4 in
the first stanza.
Kris Bennett scored two in a
row quickly to start the second
period. Saginaw scored again at
4:32, on an unassisted goal from
Kirill Maksimov to put them
within striking distance at 5-3.

Mistele stopped the comeback
with a huge goal at 8:35. It was
his third goal of the game and
second with the man advantage.
Chychrun and Zacha assisted on
his 23rd of the campaign. Sarnia
went on to score twice more as
McGregor lit the lamp from Kyrou
at 12:08. Korostelev added the
third goal of the period in the
last minute as the Sting
re-established their five goal
lead at 8-3. Lajeunesse and
White got credit for the
assists.
Mitchell Stephens continued the
goal parade, as the Spirit
sliced the lead to four with an
early goal at 3:55 of the third
period. McGregor notched his
second goal of the game from
Zacha and Jeff King at 10:48 to
make it 9-4. It went to 10-4 as
Mistele scored his fourth goal
at 13:49 from Paliani and Fazio.
In a fitting way to wrap up the
scoring Mistele tallied his
fifth in the final minute.

points over the Windsor
Spitfires, who lost in
overtime this afternoon to
the Peterborough Petes.

Sarnia will travel to Saginaw on Wednesday {puck drop 7:05) for the
back end of the home and
home against the Spirit.
