Legionnaires Introducing Historic Third Jersey
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 13, 2016
COMMUNITY NEWS
The Sarnia Legionnaires are
introducing a third jersey
that's a throwback to the team's
early years.
The jerseys, which will be
unveiled next Thursday when the
Legionnaires host the LaSalle
Vipers, are bright red, the same
colour the team wore when it won
multiple championships in the
1950s and '60s.
Club president Tom Knight said,
“When those jerseys hit the ice
it's going to be awfully
special. It's something our fans
are going to like. It's a
flashback to our tradition, to
our history.”
Sarnia will continue to wear its
other two jerseys – one of which
is predominately black, the
other which is mostly white –
with the red sweater being worn
on special occasions.
This marks the first time in the
65 year history of the franchise
that Sarnia has had a third
jersey.
The local Seaway Kiwanis club
sponsored the jerseys.
Captain Hunter Tyczynski of the
Sarnia Legionnaies is shown here
wearing the club's new third
jersey. Standing behind him are
Jerry MacPhee, past president of
the Seaway Kiwanis Club (which
paid for the jerseys), Seaway
president Don Burnard and
Legionnaires president Tom
Knight.
