THURSDAY FEBRUARY 11, 2016
COMMUNITY NEWS

Despite being stymied by Brandon
Halverson for the first 50
minutes, the Sarnia Sting skated
away with a 2-1 victory over the
Soo Greyhounds on Wednesday
night at the Essar Centre.
Justin Fazio was solid in goal
for the Sting, turning aside 25
of 26 shots faced; including two
important stops on first period
breakaways. The Sting outshot
the Greyhounds 38-26 in the
contest.
After a scoreless first period
and terrific goaltending,
Bruins' draft pick, Zachary
Senyshyn opened the scoring for
the Greyhounds with less than 3
minutes remaining in the second.
The Sting pressure paid
dividends with just over 10
minutes to go in the game as
Travis Konecny's point shot
found the back of the net and
tied the game at 1 apiece. Troy
Lajeunesse and Matt Mistele were
credited with the assists.
Just 6 minutes later, at 15:52,
Jordan Kyrou stepped off the
half-boards and beat Halverson
over the shoulder to make it 2-1
Sarnia. Jakob Chychrun and Pavel
Zacha both earned an assist on
the eventual game-winner.
With the win, Sarnia is now just
2 points back of the Windsor
Spitfires for 1st place in the
OHL's West Division.
Wednesday's contest was the
first of 4 games in the next 5.5
days for the Sting as they
travel to Guelph on Friday
before returning to the SSEC on
Saturday night. Saturday's game
against London is the second
annual DIFD Game - presented by
Mainstreet Credit Union and the
players will be donning
specialty purple jerseys.
Then, on Monday afternoon, the
Sting play host to the visiting
Saginaw Spirit in the annual
Family Day Game, presented by
RBC. Kids (12 & under) tickets
are just $6.00 and RBC is
hosting a post-game skate with
the Sting. Hot Chocolate and
autograph cards will be
