PORT HURON, MI - The Sting closed out the
pre-season with a 2-1 win over the Flint Firebirds in front of nearly 1000
fans at the McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron.
Sarnia native, Justin Fazio led the way for the Sting, turning aside 29 of
the 30 shots he faced through 60 minutes. Fazio was named the game's first
star.
In his return to McMorran Place, Port Huron native, Jeff King was forced to
call it a night far earlier than he would have liked to. King got caught up
in a tussle with Flint's Connor Sills just two minutes into the first
stanza, and ended up dropping the gloves. With Sunday being a pre-season
game, both players were ejected.
Scoring for Sarnia was Anthony Salinitri and Patrick White. Salinitri's goal
came in the opening period when he drove towards the net and beat Zach
Bowman on the blocker side. The unassisted goal was Salinitri's 6th of the
pre-season, and 4th of the weekend as the sophomore winger netted a
hat-trick in last night's tilt against Windsor. Salinitri was named the
game's second star.
The next goal came in the 2nd period when Jacob Collins cashed in on the
Firebirds powerplay. Will Bitten and Mathieu Henderson drew the assists.
White responded shortly after for the Sting; keeping, firing, and beating
Bowman on the glove-side. The short-handed marker was White's second in as
many nights. Zachary Core was awarded the lone assist.
The Sarnia Sting are back in action on Friday night at the Sarnia Sports &
Entertainment Centre when they take on the visiting Erie Otters in the
2015-16 Regular Season Home Opener. Tickets are available at the SSEC Box
