The Sarnia Legionnaires went 1 -
1 over the weekend at the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey league showcase
event held in London over the weekend.
In game one on Saturday morning
Sarnia lost to the Ancaster Avalanche 6 - 1. After a scoreless first
period Jacob Stos picked up his first goal of the season for the
Legionnaires just :23 seconds in to the second period. Ancaster went
on and scored 3 goals in the second and and 3 more in the third.
Scoring for Ancaster were Ben
Huges, Michael Pollice, Max Balinson, Lucas Pozzobon, Noah Matteson and Josh
Pace.
Aidan Huges took the loss in net
making 23 saves on 29 shots. Matt Calas earned the win for Ancaster
with 24 saves on 25 shots.
On Sunday the Legionnaires came
back and defeated the Brampton Bombers in the second showcase came with a
final score of 5 - 3. After the first period both sides shared power
play goals with Brampton's Cameron Cruickshank scoring first early in the
game and Sarnia's Ryan Vendramin scoring his first of the season on the
power play.
Period two saw Sarnia scored 3
goals back to back goals with Ryan Trottier, Brandon Layman and Sam
McCormack adding a power play goal. Brampton came back with 2 goals
the first by Mitch Shennette and the second on the power play by Nick
Kiriakos. The period ended with the Legionnaires leading by 1 with a score
of 4 - 3.
Action continued in the third
and the only goal scored was by Sarnia at 16:54 by Jarret Marks and the game
ended with Sarnia taking their first win of the season.
Shane Battler earned the win turning away 35 shots. Jason Rhynold took
the loss making stopping 16 of 21 shots he faced.
Sarnia's returns to action on
Thursday September 17th for their home opener hosting the Lambton Shores
Predators at the Sarnia Arena.. Game time 7:10 pm.
