In Great
Lakes Jr. C Hockey League action
in Mooretown Saturday night the
Flags took a 3 - 2 loss against
the league leaders Essex 73's
(10-2).
Essex
scored the only goal in the
first period with Matthew Hebert
scoring. Colin Osler
scored his first goal for the
season and the only goal in the
second period to tie things up
on a power play assisted Kyle
Smith and Brent Blais.
Early in
the third period Jakob Reeves
from Nolan Riley and Alec Segers
would give the Flags the lead
for the first time. Essex
tied things up at 13:55 after
Eric Shaw scored a power play
goal then at 16:56 Michael
Vieira scored and the 73's held
on to take the win.
Essex
outshot the Flags 61 - 21.
Netminder Brandon Johnson who
earned the League Player of the
Month for September was
outstanding in the game despite
the loss turning away 58 shots.
Both sides scored one power play
goal with Mooretown having three
opportunities and Essex with
four.
The Flags are currently sitting
in 6th place after 9 games with
a record of 5 - 4. The
Flags are back in action on the
road for the next 3 games
against Dresden (Friday Oct 23),
Amherstburg (Sun Oct 25) and
Wallaceburg (Wed Oct 28) before
returning home on Halloween
night when they host Wheatley.
